Press releases2021-02-26

The BPW subsidiary idem telematics is reinforcing its position as market leader for open system trailer telematics systems. Customers from Wielton can now have the idem telematics Gateway installed on the Wielton production line.

  • Wielton has entered a cooperation with idem telematics for the supply of trailer telematics
  • idem telematics Gateway with Electronic Brake Performance Monitoring System (EBPMS) for monitoring brake quality
  • "On demand" brake service instead of rigid workshop intervals saves time and costs

Munich/Ulm, 26/02/2021 --- Telematics is becoming an increasingly important part of the basic equipment of modern trailers: Wielton, one of the largest manufacturers of trailers, semi-trailers and superstructures in Europe is now offering Europe's leading trailer telematics from idem telematics ex works – including a major innovation: using a newly developed software, the idem telematics Gateway measures brake performance for the first time. This not only increases safety, but also saves a lot of money.

The BPW subsidiary idem telematics is reinforcing its position as market leader for open system trailer telematics systems. Customers from the Polish trailer manufacturer Wielton can now have idem telematics' bestseller, the Gateway, installed on Wielton's production line. idem telematics' Gateway not only offers the most comprehensive range of services – it also boasts a major innovation: for the first time, the software supports an exclusive Brake Pad Monitoring System that monitors brake performance while driving. This not only increases safety: instead of the usual rigid workshop intervals based on time or mileage, the brake linings only need to be changed when it is really necessary. This takes strain off the driver, saves time and money and enables precise, demand-driven maintenance of the vehicle. The system also supports monitoring of tyre pressure and numerous other vehicle statuses – and, in combination with the idem telematics truck telematics, even the driver's driving behaviour.

The typical system openness that has made idem telematics the market leader in Europe remains unchanged: this means that the data acquired can be used seamlessly and as required in a wide variety of IT environments and implementation scenarios – right up to the most demanding certified pharmaceutical transports.

Andrzej Mowczan, Commercial Director at Wielton, said: "Thanks to the established cooperation with idem telematics, our customers will obtain a reliable tool to improve the efficiency of their daily work, which will translate into concrete savings and business benefits for them. We are pleased to be the first manufacturer to offer the innovative EBPMS function of the idem telematics Gateway pre-installed ex works. Our semi-trailers equipped with this telematics system will allow for more efficient fleet management and reduction of operating costs."

Jens Zeller, Managing Director of idem telematics, added: "With the integration of telematics ex works, Wielton is committed to the future of telematics systems. We look forward to taking our long-standing trusted relationship with Wielton to the next level together."

Teams of experts from idem telematics have provided extensive training to Wielton's technicians and customer consultants. This ensures that vehicle operators receive the best possible support when choosing their telematics system.

About the Wielton S.A. company

Wielton S.A. with its registered office in Wieluń is the largest Polish manufacturer of semi-trailers, trailers and car bodies. The company is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and is one of the ten largest manufacturers in its industry in the world. Customers of Wielton include transport, construction, manufacturing, distribution and agricultural companies. The Wielton Group has four production centers in Poland, Germany, France and the UK, as well as two assembly plants in Italy and Russia. At the end of 2016, Wielton established a subsidiary in Côte d'Ivoire.

Within the whole Group, nearly 3.1 thousand employees are currently employed, with the largest number of them, i.e. 1.8 thousand, in Wieluń. The manufacturer also provides its customers with service support. Drivers can use one of i.e. 600 points located in 29 European countries. In 2016, Wielton opened a Research and Development Center in Wieluń. Investment in research and development is an important element of the company's strategy. Today, the company already cooperates with institutes and universities in Poland and abroad, and the Research and Development Center has a station for full truck trailer testing, the only one in Poland and one of two in Europe, which enables the detection of potential defects already at the stage of testing of the manufactured vehicles. The offer of the Wielton Group is extended and enriched with new products every year. Customers can choose from 12 vehicle groups available in more than 800 configurations. The strength of the Group is its consistently implemented strategy based on organic growth and acquisitions. In 2015, the Group acquired the leading Italian brands Viberti and Cardi. In May 2017, the Wielton Group took over the German company Langendorf, thanks to which it expanded its offer by adding, among others, specialist vehicles for transporting glass and concrete prefabricates, and in the last quarter of 2017 it finalized the acquisition of 100% of shares in the French company Fruehauf. The acquisition of Lawrence David in September 2018 added further unique vehicles to the Group's portfolio. Special attention should be paid to products from the last mile line and pillarless curtain-type semi-trailers, which allow for more efficient loading and faster transport.
